The Fairbairn-Sykes Commando Dagger

The Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife became one of the most recognisable symbols of Britain’s elite military units during the Second World War.

Designed by William Ewart Fairbairn and Eric Anthony Sykes, the knife was introduced in 1941 and became closely associated with British Commandos and other specialist military formations.

Its distinctive narrow blade and characteristic hilt made it instantly recognisable.

“Furthermore, the dagger became an enduring symbol of courage and determination. Today, collectors and military enthusiasts continue to recognise its historical significance.”he knife was manufactured by several companies, including Wilkinson Sword, and became an enduring symbol of Commando service.

British Commandos During World War II

“In June 1940, Winston Churchill called for specialist troops to carry out raids against German-occupied Europe. This led to the formation of the British Commandos.”

“Initially, volunteers from the British Army joined the new Commando units. Later, personnel from other Armed Forces branches and occupied European nations joined their ranks.”

British Commandos participated in numerous important operations, including the Normandy landings in June 1944.

Their courage, determination and specialist training established a military tradition that continues to be associated with Commando forces today.

A Symbol of Remembrance

“In addition, the poppy represents remembrance and respect for those who served. Therefore, this badge makes a meaningful addition to military commemorations.”

Combined with the Commando dagger, this Poppy Remembrance Commando Dagger badge provides a distinctive way to commemorate military service and honour the fallen.

It is particularly suitable for Remembrance Sunday, Armistice Day, military commemorations and veterans’ gatherings.
